Bluebear Kodiak

A couple of weeks ago, a colleague of mine pointed me at this site (thanks Raphael):

http://www.bluebearllc.net

They are a start-up software company who are building a “hypervisor-agnostic and cross-platform” virtualization management application.

I just received my beta key and have been having a quick look.  Its built on Adobe AIR and has a very fluid map model to move around the virtualization components.

You can see some screenshots here:

It certainly looks very promising, as it is a free, open-source and can manage multiple ESX hosts without the need for VirtualCenter.  The maps are beautiful.  Combine this with a free ESXi license or two and you have a great solution for companies with no virtualization budget.

However I have one small bit of feedback for this new company.  They are branding everything around the bear nomenclature.  It is selling a small form factor server under the brand Koala.  As a “naturalised” Australian, I have to point out to my American software friends that Koalas are not part of the bear family as any fair dinkum true blue Aussie would know.

  3. Hi, i just installed kodiak and having the same pop-up window asking for a certificate. I successfully create and import a certificate from within the kodiak window but am unable to connect.

    Any thoughts?

I am connecting to a ESX 3.5 server.

  4. Not sure to be honest, but have you tried restarting your browser? What account are you logging in with, does it have root privileges – remember you are connecting the ESX server not VC? Or it may be a port issue on the ESX server.
Otherwise I’d email the Kodiak guys as I know they’re keen for feedback.

  5. Hi, i tried the above site for an invitation, but there aren’t any more.
Does one of you guys have one invitation spare?
    Thank you very much!

  8. Hi,

I’ve been waiting for an invite from Bluebear for a couple of months now and still nothing. If someone could spare one or know how to contact Bluebear directly I’d be very grateful.

    Regards,
    Greg ( email: greg5_at_klika_dot_si )

    1. Sorry, I can’t help with an invite. However those Bluebear guys seem to have gone quiet over the last 6 months. I wonder if it’s still actively being developed or not.
